Vidarbha Sugarcane farmers also denied Minimum Support Price

Nagpur Jan 13, 2012,

The Maharashtra government earlier announcement of Rs 1,800 MSP for sugarcane in Vidarbha and Marathwada and Rs 2,050 in western Maharashtra in October, Swabhimani Shetakari Sanghatana leader Raju Shetty MP led an agitation in western Maharashtra for higher minimum support price for sugarcane is turning to be another eyewash as announced MSP for pluses announced by union Govt as in Sugar Factories are offering Rs 1,500 per quintal for sugarcane and this time injustice is done by BJP National President Nitin Gadkari whose “PURTI GROUP” is running most of sugar factories involved in sugar, methanol and power generation likely to dine Rs.100 crore legitimately owned by the farmers as per agreement done with state Govt. as his party has supported Raju Shetty MP led an agitation in western Maharashtra , Kishor Tiwari of Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti, a farmers’ advocacy group in a press release today

“When demand of higher MSP of vidarbha cotton, soya and paddy farmers have been rejected ,it was expected that much hyped sugar cane growers will get at least Rs 1,800 per ton price wich was less that rate fixed for western Maharashtra on ground less recovery of sugar but practically they are given 20% less even if the state government has declared Rs.1,800 and Rs2,050 support price for sugarcane growers in Vidarbha, Marathwada and western Maharashtra regions respectively, the farmers in this region are still waiting for this price and now main opposition parties in vidarbha are keeping salient over issue as this time unjust is done by BJP National President Nitin Gadkari which is serious concern ,we are taking up issue with BJP national high command so that they will direct there National President to natural justice to vidarbha farmers who have opted sugarcanes cultivation only after he urged them to do so .we will not allow distress vidarbha farmers’ to commit suicide as he has opted for sugarcane crop and this is much more humiliating ”Tiwari added.

‘If sugar factory management has nothing to do with Govt. agreement then its ridicules to announce the MSP. We will take up issue with Director of sugar factories to get justice to the dying vidarbha farmers and if we fail to get justice we will start agitation before these sugar factories’ Tiwari announced.
