Two more farmers suicides in Yavatmal

Two more farmers suicides in Yavatmal: Sharad Pawar visited village ‘kinhala’ reports farm suicides

NAGPUR: 22nd September 2013

Union agriculture minister Sharad Power’s recent tour to agrarian crisis hit region vidarbha after gap of seven years since he came with PM in July 2006 has disappointed distressed and debt trapped 3 million cotton farmers failed to give “Healing Touch”‘ to the distressed farmers as two more farmers suicides reported two from the worst hit  yavatmal district and one from village ‘Kinhala’ in yavatmal where sharad pawar visited and saw the flood salvaged field cultivated on lease by landless farmer Thavru Rathod  who killed himself yesterday and another farmer of salod village in yavatmal  identified as Shriram Talmale  killed himself  ,both farmers are reported as debt trapped and were in acute distress due massive crop failure as Yavatmal district alone reported 62 farm suicides as per official figure available  with district administration incidentally Yesterday congress party has started ‘Vachan-Purti Yatra’ from Akola in vidarbha  ,Kishore Tiwari of Vidarbha Janandolan Samiti (VJAS) informed today, urging Indian Govt. provide aid to tackle very pathetic situation as state Govt. failed to give any healing touch to dying farming community which is crying for food, medicine and relief aid.
‘When Saheb (Sharad Pawar)visited our village kinhala last week we have shown 200 hector land out of 367 hector total land that has been completely damaged and Ramkrishna chavan who is official owner land given to lease since 2007 to his close relative Thavru Rathode who killed yesterday and repeatedly told that  Thavru Rathode is deep trouble and he is in deep distress after flood salvaged his complete crop, Saheb promised  to give relief aid but our farmers have lost faith in Govt. as they have been denied aid all the time since 2006’ village sarpanch Sudam Pawar(9422868347)  informed from Govt. medical college mortuary where he is waiting postmortem of Thavru Rathode.

The farm suicide spiral has restarted when Govt. ignored main demands of higher MSP for cotton and fresh bank credit to all defaulter farmers more over he added more fuel to the on going agrarian crisis by announcing  that  region not need any central special relief package and Govt. is imposing export duty on cotton export will act as trigger for more farm suicides 25 ges on the road he moved  farm widows lined up and were waiting that he will come and ask hardship but that has not happened without  any farm widow or distressed debt trapped cotton farmers he declared that crop ground condition is good and country expecting bumper crop that is more painful and irritating’ Tiwari added. years sharad pawar has moved farm suicide hit cotton growing area yavatmal area where more than 2000 farmers suicides reported since 1997 .
Vidarbha where more than million acres of land has been eroded and crop lost amounting more than Rs.20,000 crore but Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has already submitted a proposal seeking Rs1,180 crore for Vidarbha
while roads and bridges have been damaged on a large scale and need urgent repairs but till date final assessment report  of state govt. has not been submitted and farmers are crying for help, Tiwari said

Earlier too when Indian Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh visited vidarbha on 1st July 2006 for announcing vidarbha relief package of Rs.3750 and he told the farm widows that his visit to give healing touch to distressed farmers  but  all promises given by him went in vain  and complete relief package followed by farm loan waiver failed to address the farm suicide issue failed miserably and his so called ‘Healing Touch’ has given more pain and despair now Indian Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar is on three day “Farm suicide tourism”  with same slogan that his tour is not political one and he is visiting flood hit region to give healing touch to dying farmers but farmers are requesting him not to rub the salt to their wounds by giving to promises and creating rosy picture as it’s trigger more suicide as when PM promise of farm credit ,direct aid and restoration to  sustainable agriculture and livelihood of agrarian community turned to be hoax, Tiwari said.
